Love this place! Great, real, healthy food, good portions and prices. Order at counter, food served to table. 2 people can have a great lunch for $20 including a drink. I am picky about my espresso and theirs is very good. I was told they get it from Ferris coffee roasters in town. Caution: 2 or more beers might inspire you to stroll next door and buy a bike. Go for it!

Great food for breakfast and lunch. Scones are great. I had a roast beef sandwich with slaw and caramelized onions - was great. The owners, Tom Sr & Tom Jr., are usually there or at the adjoining bike shop.

I'm addicted to this place. They just opened and I keep finding excuses to go back. I'm not a huge hamburger fan, but their Trailhead Burger is literally the best I've ever had and I keep coming back for more. The Pecan Chicken and Cherry salad is awesome and I also love the chicken salad. Another great thing is there are several gluten free options. The atmosphere is casual and upbeat, service has been really quick every time I've been there, even when they were busy. It's easy to drive by the entrance to the strip mall they are in. I've also been there for breakfast, and tried the Santa Fe, it came with delicious little spuds, which I wasn't expecting. Definitely try this place, it's already getting popular and I can see why.

Pros: - Great sandwich and burger menu! I had a Veggie Panini and my husband had a Club Sandwich. Both were delish and well portioned. The side of chips and fries were also good. The fries are spiced just right with a special seasoning. - The food came out super fast. - The staff was very friendly and the owner even stopped by our table to chat for awhile. - Very clean place with some cool bike-themed lighting. - Best kid-friendly bathrooms I've ever seen and very clean. Mini-toilets FTW! - Attached to a bike shop so you can drop your wheels off for a tune-up then grab a bite to eat. Cons: - A bit out of the way so make sure to check for the signage.

Great and super fresh sandwiches two visits in a row. Super nice staff as well. Just wish it was open later for a quick bite for dinner.

They've been open less than three weeks and I've already been twice. I was impressed both times. First, I love the bike theme decor. The place is really cute. Second, the food is awesome. At lunch I had the Thai chicken wrap.... just the right amount of heat. Went back for breakfast and the food was amazing. My friend and I shared a Jill's coffee cake to start. Talk about melt in your mouth! I had the Cascade scramble and it was delicious. As someone mentioned in an earlier review, it's a little out of the way, so spread the word. This place has quickly become my new go-to place for breakfast and lunch.

Awesome food. Has yet to disappoint. Reasonably priced for premium quality sandwiches, etc.

Very good California Cobb salad. Cali Reuben was ok. For a dollar extra for more meat I was expecting more though. Good local deserts.

Gluten Free Hamburger Buns This place is less than a 1/2 mile from my work and yet I find myself driving here more than walking, which I should do. Before this place opened, Jimmy Johns, Quiznos or Zoup all due to its proximity to the office. Anyways love this place. In the past I have always gotten a salad or some maybe the burger w/o a bun as I have a wheat allergy. However today much to my surprise and joy today the menu listed gluten free hamburger buns. I figured what the hey I'm willing to try almost any gluten free bread offering and was amazed at the hamburger bun they offered from a local bakery. Most hamburger buns break up, don't hold up to a burger or taste like some cross of a hockey puck, rock and piece of bread. The Trailhead Burger is as good as the other reviews, especially if you have a nice bun and now I have one. I've never been disappointed by the food or the service at Trailhead. An amazing location and happy its so near to my work

I like this place. My visits have been for lunch. I am told by many that the breakfasts are very good too .Great menu with lots of soup, salad and sandwich choices. Unfortunately there is not enough seating. Maybe that's by design? I try to go after the rush hour at or after 1:00 so I can sit down. You order your food at the counter and they bring it out to you. Works pretty well. The owners are on site and everyone is very friendly and helpful. I will continue to visit Trail Head.

I had the Fat Tire scramble, which was packed full of veggies and breakfast meats. It also came with a nice portion of potatoes. In addition to the scramble I also had the Chocolate chip pancakes that were awesome. Nothing better than eating cookies for breakfast.

Stopped for Saturday morning breakfast. Our first time here. A great breakfast. I had the Santa Fe scramble, which was great. The coffee was great too, and the service was great. OK then ... Great all round. Try out this spot.

Glad to see these guys getting great reviews. Love the atmosphere and decor. Had the Trailhead Burger, Chipotle Chicken Wrap and the Club. All were outstanding! Always a stop when I am in the area!

After 3 days in Grand Rapids, this is our favorite place. Very friendly and food is great and reasonably priced. You can even get a mug of coffee for $1! Decor is very tasteful and it is fun to browse in the connected bike shop.

My gf & I were looking for gluten-free restaurants in the Grand Rapids area (for her, not I) and we read some great reviews for Trailhead Cafe. As they close at 3pm on Saturdays, we sped out of Holland at around 1:30pm to grab a late lunch. We were greeted warmly by the two people working the front counter, who pointed out that their menu was up on the chalkboard above them or in a takeout menu on the counter. We paged through the menu for a second before deciding upon a "Blazin' Buffalo Chicken" sandwich for me and a Club sandwich (on a gluten-free bun) for my gf. The food came quickly to our table and it was welcomed with open arms. I chose the house-made cole slaw for my side and it was delicious! The sandwich (as well as the slaw) was beyond FRESH tasting. The flavors of my sandwich were well balanced between the buffalo roasted chicken, chipotle gouda and blue cheese aioli. The sandwich also featured lettuce, carrots and onion on sourdough...all to great effect. That, and the garlicky pickle from Boar's Head made it a great lunch. I'd order this again in a second. My gf's sandwich looked delicious and she said that it tasted as such. The gluten-free bun was "above average" and the fillings of both sandwiches were above par. She chose to go with the house chips as her side. The decor reflects the theme of the bike shop that is connected to the restaurant. Nice and understated. Cleaner than thou bathrooms were a welcome addition, as well. Finally, as we were finishing our lunch, the owner stopped by the table to ask how we were doing. He was informative and very friendly. I didn't ask him his name, but he should be very proud of his restaurant's food and staff. I would highly recommend searching out this slightly out-of-the-way lunch oasis. They also serve breakfast, according to their menu. Maybe we'll make it out of Holland a little earlier next time and give it a go.

I enjoy this little place! Full menu, yummy baked goods and a clean and happy dining area! They are very friendly and the food has been terrific! We have eaten something off each section of the menu, with my favorite being a brownie and burger! Nice shopping nearby too.

I had a great experience here. They have a good variety of food and drinks! I got there around 2pm which was only an hour before closing so it wasn't too busy. The staff was very friendly and their service was great. They checked up on me every so often and were very accommodating. I ordered the Thai Chicken Wrap which was delicious! It had a large variety of vegetables and came with a large portion of chicken. It was a tad bit spicy but I love spicy food so I added more of the spicy Thai chile sauce. This came with a side of potato chips and a pickle. I also ordered a fountain drink which had free refills. Altogether the order was around $10. It has a cute cafe feel to it and my food came out super fast. There is free wifi and you can stay however long you'd like. I saw multiple groups there with their laptops so I'm guessing they were having business meetings. I highly recommend this place! Such a great find! I will definitely be returning!

This is an excellent little place for lunch in the Grand Rapids area. Everything seems to be made from scratch. My black bean burger had a perfect texture and subtle spicing, the complete opposite of the commercial, frozen kind I refuse to get. It came with pico de gallo, guacamole and a nice red pepper aioli as well a tasty pickle. I also ordered a side of slaw that was very natural with a light but very effective dressing. My wife enjoyed her spinach salad with hot bacon dressing and said that the potato salad was very good. Places like this one need to be rewarded with business. I plan to do so whenever I am in the area again.

The B.L.A.T. Sandwich is amazing. Buttery toasted sourdough bread. And the sweet potato fries were killer. This is a must go and the bike/ outdoor shop and boutique on the other makes for a great find for its today, off of the beaten path. Plus Tino, our dog, was very welcome to eat with us outside.

Had catering from this place today. Box lunches come with chips and a cookie. The veggie wrap was packed with grilled veggies and a nice basil aioli sauce to tie it all together. Also tried the Trailhead spinach salad with hot bacon dressing. Added a piece of salmon which was tasty and a good size. The cookie seemed to have a carrot cake flavor with caramel. Also very good. Would definitely eat at this place again and is one of my new favorite lunch spots!

  • Kellee K.

Great service! The setup is similar to Panera where you order at the counter and wait for them to bring your order. Food tastes fresh. The Santa Fe scramble sauce was excellent! Really enjoyed eating a nice brunch here.

  • Cassandra N.

I stopped here for breakfast one morning to grab some takeout on my way to work. The food was OK, but it wasn't anything to rave about. Typically if I order out I want it to be better than what I could have made at home myself. This wasn't. I got the Fat Tire scramble and a cup of fresh fruit. Both were good in the sense that I didn't have to prepare it myself, but was nothing special.

This place has some really good vegetarian options which is awesome! Amazing black bean burger (best I've ever had) and the customer service is great!

We discovered this place last year and now try to hit it for lunch every time we're passing thru Grand Rapids (it's about 45 minutes away from our home,). Our favorite salad is the Pecan Chicken salad--with mixed greens, pecan-crusted chicken, pecans, dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese and a luscious cherry vinaigrette. Soon good! This salad is so substantial that my husband and I could almost split it. We don't, because we like to take home leftovers from here. Funky little deli, with great pictures on the wall of people biking in scenic locations. Friendly staff and quick service. We've gone there a few times during the noon rush (seems like lots of medical personnel from the nearby medical suites), and always find the service fast and courteous. We had breakfast there once----also delicious!!

Trailhead Cafe is delicious! My coworkers and I frequent this spot for lunch and their salads, sandwiches, and wraps are always a favorite. This place is an amazing spot- I'd recommend to anyone looking for a casual spot they can get a great sandwich!

  • Mark G.

I liked it. Good food, good price point. Decently sized portions. Healthy options. My only complaint: breakfast should be served past noon on Saturday. How about 2pm? It's not as if it takes more out of your cook to crack a few eggs or pour some pancake batter, come on. I am also irritated that the place is closed on Sunday. Is it 1985? Get with it Grand Rapids.

    (4)
  • Phil G.

Consistently good food with decent selection and prices. The service is also typically prompt and friendly, but can get a bit slow during the busy hours as one would expect. I had the "Trailhead" burger today. A very tasty sandwich with bacon, horseradish cheddar, slaw and mayo. The burgers are always cooked to order and the ingredients fresh-tasting. I will say the bacon was underdone for my taste, but it was an excellent lunch nonetheless. I do wish they were open on Sundays, but this is a solid choice for breakfast or lunch Monday through Saturday.

Came here based on the reviews. Normally go to Arnie's for breakfast when we are in town but decided to do something new this time. Everything was great. The food was delicious. We had the breakfast burritos and the Fat Tire Scramble. Hazelnut coffee was fantastic as well. Would come back here again!

Pretty busy but fast to take orders. Hard to read the menu from the register. Slow for food to come out, three people who ordered food well after me were served before me. Took about 25mins for me to be in and out. My club panini and fries were good but not great for the price tag of close to $11. Overall impression was just ok. I would try it again but select something different.

  • Emily S.

All the reviews are true!! This place is really good. We went for lunch and it was not busy at all. Lots of seating available. I got a good bowl of chicken noodle soup. The chicken was grilled, which was yummy. It really hit the spot. My husband got a Club sandwich ,which was huge. It had a delicious garlic aioli. It reminded me of the Laundry in Fenton, MI, and close to a Zingermans sandwich. Get the French fries! The seasoning had rosemary in it. Not too strong but just the right amount.

This is such a cute little lunch spot. I definitely recommend calling ahead if you are taking a to-go order, because it's such a popular spot for lunch and the line tends to be long, though it does move quickly. I've only been in town for three weeks and have already been over five times. Everything I've had so far is delicious, and they serve large portions for the price.

So something you need to know about me is that I have trust issues with house salads. I've had a few too many tiny bowls with wilted greens, and soggy carrot shavings on top. Trailhead Café made me a believer in the house salad again. My house salad was heaping with fresh, colorful, crisp veggies and greens. Layered with my Mediterranean dressing, and my side of hearty Pork and bean soup, it was the perfect lunch time portion. I've had Trailhead Café's food countless times prior, mind you. My office practically lives off their to-go orders. But this was my first experience at their actual restaurant. Walking in, I found a cute, tidy, well-lit restaurant. Decorated with funky bike tire light fixtures and big photographs of the outdoors, the restaurant blends nicely with the outdoors-y atmosphere of the shopping center (Bill and Paul's Ski shop and Grand Rapids Bike Shop are both neighbors). I arrived early to beat what I heard was the lunch time rush (note- they are open from 7am-3pm only). While I wasn't the first in, I grabbed a corner table and went up to order. The staff was helpful and friendly and my food was delivered quickly to the table. By the time we were getting up to leave, the place had filled up. It's so wonder- this is a cute cafe with some amazingly good lunchtime offerings.

I was expecting more of a hole-in-the-wall, but Trailhead turned out to be very clean with a great atmosphere. We went on a Saturday morning, and there was no wait. I ordered a BLT with sweet potato fries--delish! My husband ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. Either they forgot the buffalo sauce or mixed up his order because he said he couldn't taste it (a forgivable offense since he still enjoyed it). Overall, it was awesome, and I recommend it!

LOVED their lunch options. We dined here 2 times while in the area bc the food was so tasty. The desserts are incredible (bummer that they aren't made in house though) Like My better half said....If they could make a traditional espresso drink this place would be 5/5 stars.

    (4)
  • Andrew W.

Only only only complaint is that their espresso beverages are WAY too big. 16 ounces is double the size of a normal drink, so it's no surprise they taste like hot milk and the espresso flavor is nowhere to be found. Food was amaze-balls and the staff was friendly and attentive.

This is a fantastic breakfast/lunch eatery. The food here is always great, and don't let those salads fool you, they'll satisfy the hunger. (peacon chicken salad is awesome) The sandwiches and burgers here are great too. The staff there is super friendly and the food is served pretty quickly once it's done cooking. All in all, if anyone's in the area for breakfast/lunch, this is definitely a place to come!

  • B B.

Excellent sandwiches. Great breakfasts too! You can't go wrong here. Yelp has the hours wrong. They don't open until 8:00 a.m. That was frustrating...driving there for a 7:00 breakfast meeting and finding out they don't open for an hour. Great place though!

  • Brad M.

First of all this place was a kind of hard to find (and I live hidden locations). When I realized it was the extention of the bike shop, it was no problem. The customers sitting outside smiling were a dead giveaway. I had the Spinach Salad for lunch. It had bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, pickled onions, tomatos and a wonderful dressing. And this thing was HUGE! Delish! My friend had the Pecan covered Chicken salad. We were early on the lunch rush and the chicken wasn't warm, and the pecan crust had made it a bit dry. However, I feel like this might have been an unusual miss instead of the norm. We will go back and try a lot more times... we really enjoyed it... and maybe the chicken will be right next time... watch for updates! 4 STARS

I saw all the good reviews and John B. usually knows what he is talking about and this time he did not dissapoint. I ordered the Reuben. There was just the right amount of meat and toppings. The portions were spot on. I'm pretty picky about my Reubens and this was good. The meat was tender and it was grilled to perfection. My wife got a chickec wrap and liked it as well. We will have to return soon, the burgers looked good.

Best Italian sandwich I've had in Grand Rapids. Fantastic service (and very fast). Plus the fact that we ate inside of the neighboring bike shop made this a place I will soon be back to visit.

Great sandwiches, fast service, and excellent French fries! I had the Thai wrap and my girlfriend had the blackened chicken wrap and both were delicious, especially with a side of fries. Everything seemed very fresh, chicken was great and the vegetables were crisp. Will definitely go again!

This is a great lunch/brunch place for a small group. The restaurant itself was a lot smaller than I expected. The restaurant has seating to your right and left with the counter to order immediately in front of you when you walk inside. There's not a lot of waiting room. I went for lunch on a Friday, and they were packed! I was hoping to sit by myself and get some work done on my computer, but it was too loud and crowded for that. I ended up getting lunch to-go: 1/2 club sandwich & cup of the mushroom & brie soup (soup du jour). The sandwich had tons of meat piled on--turkey, ham, bacon with lettuce, tomato, and melted cheese. The sandwich was filling (it came in a nice box with potato chips & a pickle spear), but the bread was very greasy. Both pieces of bread were soaked in butter and grilled. Next time I go, I will order it without butter. The mushroom & brie soup was amazing--it was very creamy and flavorful! There were small pieces of brie floating in it! I will definitely go back to try something different!

Thanks to yelp for helping me find this place! Had 1/2 house salad and 1/2 buffalo chicken panini for $11. Fresh, fast and friendly. Panini had too much aoli for my taste so I should have asked for light sauce, but that's a personal preference. It was made from boars head deli chicken and the kick was just right for a quick lunch.

  • James M.

Fantastic! My fiancé and I came here for lunch and were very impressed. I got the buffalo chicken panini which was great. She ordered the southwest chicken salad which was good but seemed to lack a necessary crunch, still very good though. I'd highly recommend Trailhead Cafe. Excellent atmosphere and staff! 5 stars all the way!

4.5 stars. Really nice, friendly place with a sunny atmosphere and good breakfasts, salads, and sandwiches. Gluten-free options available. Pecan chicken and cherry salad was good. Good coffee and pastries to go.

i never understand why burger/sandwhich places that offer a veggie option can't just offer to swap out the meat for the veggie burger, this place does, and that's awesome. the fries were simple but really good. the black bean burger was great, i'm very excited to go back, it's just pretty far out of my way. the tea was really good, and my guy loved his burger. i love the atmosphere, it's really clean. everyone was super friendly and actually interested in how we liked our food. highly recommend this place to any vegetarians.

Trailhead Cafe is a hidden gem! It is located next to and is connected to the Grand Rapids Bicycle Company's new location next to Bill and Paul's Sporthaus on East Paris Avenue (also near Snapdragon Boutique and Groskopfs). Some co-workers and I went here for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised at how busy this little cafe was! Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and accomodating! You order your food, are given a number to put at your table, when your food is ready (fast!) it is delivered and then they clean up after you. (Similar to how Panera does their order/deliver/clean up). Our food was done and delivered in only a few minutes, which is wonderful when you are trying to have lunch out and go back to work in a timely fashion. I had the pecan chicken cherry salad and it was not only pretty to look at, but so delicious and unique. I loved it and highly recommend this salad. Everyone else liked their food, some raved, some said it was good, but nobody had anything bad to say! I also heard a lot of positive comments about the nice atmosphere, even though it was connected to a bike shop, it was really neat! I did not get a chance to see the bathrooms, but some of the other girls said the bathroom was really cute (I don't hear that too often). I also got an espresso caramel brownie and it was so decadent and rich. Really a nice treat. The toast with my salad was sourdough and I loved it. I understand they get their breads from Nantucket Baking Co. I love when restaurants get their bread locally. I didn't get a chance to try a specialty coffee or smoothie, but those are on the menu and I saw several people ordering them to go, so they must be good or they'd be getting them elsewhere. Overall, I was really impressed with Trailhead Cafe. I did not know what to expect. I had no idea the size of the space or what the food would be like (even though the menu looks great) or if it would be busy or not and it was busy (good sign) and the service was great (quick and accompanied with smiles and polite words) and it was big enough for groups (I can't promise you'll get a table, but they have more room than I expected) and the food tasted really good (kudos to the chef!). I am excited to go back again soon and try something else from the menu. So glad I discovered this new spot.

Wow. I'm a self proclaimed "foodie" and this place is truly as good as it gets! Delis are my favorite types of food to eat. I expected this place to be good, based on the reviews. Was it ever! So good in fact I felt compelled to actually create a Yelp account just so I could review it. My co-workers all made special trips out of their offices to see what the fabulous smell was. One of them even rushed over there before they closed to check it out! I got my order to go but the atmosphere seemed nice. The girls at the counter were very friendly and even made recommendations to me. I got the "chipotle chicken wrap". It had a nice bite to it but not too spicy. YUM! Definitely a place to try!
